Dinghy Instructor Pre-entry

This course determines whether candidates wishing to participate in the Sailing Instructor (dinghy) course have the necessary skills and knowledge. It is a mandatory pre-requisite for entry to Sailing Instructor (Dinghy) training. Successful candidates must complete their Instructor training and assessment within 6 months of completing the pre-entry assessment.

  • Day 1 – Training of skills necessary for assessment (below)*
  • Day 2 – Assessment on boat handling, navigation, pilotage, rules of the road, weather, coastal knowledge & ropework.

* It should not be assumed that completing the training day prior to assessment will automatically guarantee a successful outcome on the assessment day

Assumed Knowledge: Skills & knowledge equivalent to Advanced Boat Handling, Adventure 1.
Ability After Course: You will have the necessary skills and knowledge to take on the ISA Sailing Instructor (Dinghy) training course.
Course Duration: 1 or 2 day – one day of training and one day of assessment.
Minimum Age: 17
Cost of course: €220 – Includes training day and assessment
Assessment day only: €110

Sailing Instructor Training And Assessment

Our instructor training combines practical coaching techniques, safety procedures and leadership skills to prepare candidates for instructing on the water. During the assessment process, participants demonstrate their sailing ability, communication skills and understanding of best practice, ensuring they meet the high standards required for instructor certification.

Pre requisites: Pre Entry assessment completed within last 12 months Valid Emergency Care Certificate form approved Course
Garda Vetting clearance.

ISA National Powerboat Certificate (Level 2) – with certificate endorsed for both tiller and console controls, and 20 hours logged following certification.

Senior Instructor Assessment

A Senior Instructor plans and manages courses in Irish Sailing Association Small Boat Sailing, powerboating and windsurfing schemes. including the supervision and development of Instructors.
 
Pre requisites:
ISA Sailing Instructor (Sailing, Keelboat or Catamaran)
 Recommendation from Centre Principal either
Have completed a Dinghy, Keelboat or Catamaran Instructor Pre-entry assessment within last 12 months
 Hold Adventure Instructor, Club Racing Instructor or Kites & Wires Instructor qualification
Valid Emergency Care Certificate from approved course
 SRC VHF Radio Certificate
 ISA Safety Boat Certificate
 Logbook

At least 50 days working as an ISA SBSS Instructor teaching SBSS courses spread over 2 seasons in 2 or more different organisations
 
Minimum age: 19 years
